What is Autism?

Autism is a lifelong developmental disability which affects how people communicate and interact with the world. One in 100 people are on the autism spectrum and there are around 700,000 autistic adults and children in the UK.

Signs of Autism in children.

If you think your child might be autistic, you could speak to a GP, a health visitor (for children under 5) or our SENCO Mrs Dunford.

At The Bay we offer a number of strategies to support children with ASC. Here are some of the ways we adapt our learning to meet the needs of our pupils.

Picture Exchange Communication system  - PECs 

 

Work stations are supportive to those children that need a more organised environment with less distractions.               

Sensory snack breaks and Sensory circuit sessions are run throughout the day to meet the child’s specific needs.

We use the Zones of Regulation through the whole school, it’s a curriculum designed to foster self-regulation and emotional control.
