The Bay CE School

Pixl Edge Celebration

The Bay CE Secondary were delighted to welcome parents, family and friends to support 130 students in years 8-10 who have been successful in gaining their Pixl Edge Apprentice Award.

Validated by the Confederation of British Industries (CBI) , this award is accredited and constitutes for many their first formal qualification. Mrs Walters, Assistant Headteacher, spoke highly of the efforts and commitment shown by the students who have shown great resilience in completing all 10 challenges, across five key skills.

The CBI identify these five skills as being essential for success in employment and industry: Leadership, Organisation, Resilience, Initiative and Communication, and as such, students have worked within Futures days and with their tutors to prove their competence.

Challenges included raising money for charity, taking part in the Blue House Virin Mini marathon and Yellow House Walk for the Mountbatten Hospice. Student have debated key issues such as Wind Turbines and alternative energies, learning new skills such as cooking, juggling, magic tricks and new sports.

A big drive throughout the school is the development of student leadership, with courses offered to become a Reading buddy, peer mentor, library assistant, office apprentice, sports leader, House council, Student leadership team, School Ambassador, Anti-bullying Ambassador, Equality and Inclusivity advocacy leaders ....the list goes on! Many of the successful students assumed key roles either in school or outside of school, captaining local football teams for example.

All recipients gained their commemorative certificate and Pixl Edge enamel badge, kept safe in their Achievement folders. This will take pride of place near the front of the folder, which will be shared with future employers and post-16 providers at interview

Mrs Walters gave a special mention to Aydin Gumus, the only students in the school to so far be awarded the Pioneer Award, having gained his apprentice award last year. An excellent role model and Pixl Edge ambassador, Aydin spent two days in the summer term helping other students complete their Pixl Edge award.

Congratulations to all!
