Sports Highlights (Primary) 2021-22

The Bay CE Primary Sports Teams had some fantastic successes during 2021-22. Here are just a few highlights. Congratulations to everyone involved in our sports teams, you have made us very proud.  

• The U9 girls football team are island league champions with no goals conceded all season! 
• The U11 girls football team are IOW Cup Champions (joint with Gurnard Primary).
• The U11 girls football team played in the Hampshire finals and were awarded The Fair Play Award. 
• The U9 boys football team are island cup and island league champions.
• The Year 6 Indoor athletics team came third in the island competition.
• The Year 5 and 6 cricket team won 2 out of 4 games, drew one and lost one in the Indoor cricket competition. 
• The Year 6 basketball team secured second place in the inter schools tournament.
• Years 3-6 pupils attended the PEACH Games and had a thoroughly enjoyable day. The Year 3 and 4 pupils tried new sports such as New Age Kurling, Archery, and Boccia. The Year 5 and 6 pupils tried Tri-Golf in the morning, doing activities to practise their putting, driving, and aiming. Then in the afternoon, they did some Athletics, having a go at sprinting, long distance, long jump, and vortex throw.
• Primary pupils attended the Winchester Sports Festival. They started the day with a fun warm up and opening ceremony representing their given country, Nigeria. They spent time at the Commonwealth village, where they got to play crazy golf, get their faces painted, try some food, and even go on the surfing simulator. They enjoyed playing golf, tennis and rounders.  

• As part of National Sports Week, Year 2 to Year 6 took part in a Chance to Shine cricket session with Alex Barton, a professional cricket coach. 
• The U10 cricket team beat Godshill. The U11 boys team beat Nettlestone and the U11 girls team beat Broadlea. 
• Pupils who attend Year 3/4 Golf Club were given the opportunity to take part in professional golf lessons at Shanklin & Sandown Golf Club each Tuesday.
• Sophie B in Year 6 took part in the IOW School's Showjumping competition. She rode her horse Stan and represented the school with pride. The judges scored Sophie and she came 2nd! 
• Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 pupils took part in the East Wight Cross Country  Championships with some impressive results 
• The Year 6 basketball team came third in the Island finals
