Tag Rugby Competition

The Bay were lucky enough to take two teams to the Tag Rugby competition at Broadlea on Thursday. There were 12 teams at the tournament split into 3 groups. The Bay’s Year 5 team were placed into Group 3, and the Year 6 team was in group 2.

The Year 6 team played Arreton first, it was a very tight game with The Bay defended very well, and it finished with a 1-1 draw. They played St Saviours next and worked really hard to ensure they got more tries, the game finished 4-4. Finally the team played Newport, and despite them being a strong team they held them to a 3-3 draw. Unfortunately, this wasn’t enough to take the team through to the semi finals, but they worked really hard, and their defensive and attacking play got better as they moved through the matches. They even finished off with a friendly game against St Blasius.

The Year 5 team started off playing against Broadlea, The Bay was strong from the start with constant attacks and finished the match 6-2. Next they played Nettlestone, who were a couple of players down, but that didn’t stop them giving the Bay a good game, but they managed to clinch it right at the end to win 7-6. The final game was against Niton and despite defending really well, and scoring some fantastic tries, The Bay lost 4-3. Due to scoring so many tries, The Bay went through as the best 2nd place team, and played St Saviour’s in the semi final. Another game they battled really well, but sadly lost 2-1 right at the last minute. The Bay played in the 3rd place play off against Niton for a place in the final after half term. The match started really well, with The Bay on top, but as the team started to tire, Niton sneaked through the gaps to score tries, and they lost 5-2.

Both The Bay teams worked really hard, were determined to get some tries, and defended fantastically. Well done!
