On Tuesday, our U11 cricket teams headed to Appley Beach to take part in the 2025 Isle of Wight Beach Cricket Tournament.

First up, were our U11 girls who were drawn against Brighstone and Newport in their qualifying group. A strong performance with bat and ball ensured a comfortable victory against Brighstone before facing a strong Newport side. The team demonstrated consistent bowling as well as brilliant communication to gain runs to lead them to another win and qualify for the final.

In the final, they faced Carisbrooke who had also won both their qualifying games so they knew it would be a real challenge. An impressive batting performance set Carisbrooke a tough task in their run chase and with some intelligent fielding to run their opponents out three times as well as three wickets, the team was crowned U11 Girls Beach Cricket Champions!

After a break for lunch, it was now time for the boys to take part in a five team round-robin with the top team becoming champions.

In their first game, the boys faced a very strong Shalfleet team who showed their quality with early wickets to restrict us to a relatively low score for them to chase. Luckily, the boys rose to the occasion with alert fielding, including a magnificent one handed catch from Mason diving to his right, and a hat-trick from Boaz resulted in a very close 5 run victory.

That first game turned out to be the team's hardest challenge as three fairly comfortable victories against Haylands, Summerfields and Greenmount ensured they finished top of the league and also crowned 2025 Beach Cricket Champions!

A special mention to all twelve children who attended as their behaviour and effort was exemplary. It was a long day but even when they weren't playing they would watch and support their team mates as well as other schools. It was a pleasure to see and they should all be extremely proud of themselves.
