The House System
We have a House System on the primary and secondary sites which supports:
a community feel among pupils
a sense of belonging
healthy competition
a sense of pride
leadership opportunities
role models for pupils
House points are awarded at House events, competitions and House Community Days. Winning is great but, participation for Red, Green, Blue or Yellow House is the key.

Yellow House Present Cheque to Mountbatten
January 2026
Last week, our Yellow House Council visited Mountbatten to proudly present a cheque for £2,581.48. Although the Yellow House Walk could not take place during the summer term due to the heatwave, Yellow House were still delighted to raise this fantastic amount through a mufti day, Ice Pop Show, entry fees, and sponsorship for those who completed the Yellow House Walk ‘Your Own Way’. A huge thank you to everyone who supported Yellow House’s chosen charity.
House Celebration Assemblies
Congratulations to all the pupils who have received certificates and trophies in our House Celebration Assemblies this week. Certificates were awarded for a wide range of achievements, including participation in inter-house activities and contributions to the House System. Pupils are also awarded ‘Believe, Inspire, Excel’ awards, chosen by House Leaders to recognise pupils who truly demonstrate our school ethos. Well done to everyone recognised, this is a fantastic achievement.
Green House Community Day (Secondary)
December 2025
Green House Community Day took place on Wednesday 10th December, bringing together pupils and staff for a full day of teamwork, fundraising, and friendly competition. Pupils across the secondary site arrived in mufti, each donating £1 in support of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, Green House’s chosen charity.
One of the highlights of the day was the lucky dip fundraiser, organised and run by the Green House Council. Their hard work helped to raise additional funds.
Throughout the morning, pupils in Years 7 and 8 took part in an energetic Inter House Rowing Competition, battling it out during periods 1–4. Later in the day, pupils from all year groups had the chance to compete in an after-school rowing event, showing determination, teamwork, and impressive competitive spirit. A huge thank-you goes to former pupils Fin D and Isaac K, who kindly returned to support the running of the event.
Alongside the sporting competition, more than 120 pupils from Years 7 to 10 took part in a ‘Leadership Skills in an Emergency’ training course. Led by Flight Sergeant Crosswell from the Ryde Air Cadet Unit, the session offered hands-on experience in teamwork and crisis leadership. Pupils took part in activities such as team-building challenges and stretcher-making, gaining valuable skills that could one day help them take charge in an emergency situation.

Blue House Community Day (Primary)
December 2025
On Friday 5th December Blue House Captain and Vice Captain Chloe and Ava organised Blue House Community Day at the primary site. Each House chooses a charity to support and fundraise for throughout the year.
Steve Read, who set up the charity, came into school to talk to children about the charity and what defibrillators do. The money raised will go towards a new defibrillator for Sandown which will be named The Bay after our fundraising efforts. Well done everyone!
“My Grandad set up IOW defibrillators after suffering a cardiac arrest in 2017. This is a charity close to my heart so we wanted to support the charity and hope to raise enough money for a new defibrillator. We chose a pyjama day because it is a bit more fun and different to a mufti day.”

Blue House Community Day (Secondary)
October 2025
On Friday 10th October, Blue House came together for an amazing Community Day to raise money for their chosen house charity — Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat. Nearly 500 students and staff completed a mini marathon course featuring our very own ‘London Landmarks’ including a homemade Tower Bridge, the Cutty Sark, Buckingham Palace and The Mall! Students brought in £1 to wear mufti and the Blue House Council sold 400 bags of pick ’n’ mix, all to support this local cause.
The day finished with the Blue House Quiz, where over 30 teams of students and staff battled it out to become quiz champions! Prizes were kindly donated by local businesses including Love Running, The Little Isle of Wight Company, Sandown Soccer, Morrisons, McDonalds, Wildheart Animal Sanctuary and Isle of Wight Steam Railway.
Mr Bricknell, Head of Blue House organised the day with students from The Blue House Council. Having completed the London Marathon himself in 2021, he wanted to inspire students to challenge themselves and see how their efforts can make a real difference to a valuable charity in the local community.
Blue House hand over cheque for £1216.39 to Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat

On Friday 13th June Blue House Council pupils from the secondary site had the honour of visiting Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat to unveil the newly named launch tractor – Sandy McPuller – a name they proudly had the chance to choose after their incredible fundraising efforts! Back in October 2024, Blue House Community Day at The Bay CE School raised an amazing £1216.39 through a mufti day, quiz, pick n mix shop, and mini marathon. Pupils visited Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat and presented the cheque to Mark Birch and the lifeboat team, who were hugely grateful for their hard work and generosity. They even got to enjoy a ride in the boat being pulled by the tractor, tour the lifeboat station, and learn how their fundraising will help save lives in the local area.
Red House Community Day (Secondary)
March 2025
Red House Community Day took place at the secondary site on Friday 28th March. Pupils wore mufti in exchange for £1 and a donation of food for Red Houses’ Charity, Isle of Wight Food Bank (Trussell Trust). There was also an Inter House Bake-Off competition and a cake sale. Pupils in Years 7, 8 and 9 took part in a wide variety of team building activities.
