SIAMS Inspection - November 2025
The Bay Church of England School Praised for Strong Christian Vision and remarkable commitment to enabling pupils to flourish
The Bay Church of England School, is celebrating a highly positive Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS) report, which praises the school for living out its Christian foundation and ensuring pupils and staff flourish.
The Inspection took place at both the primary and secondary sites on 18th and 19th November. The Inspector commended the school’s clear and ambitious Christian vision, noting that it “inspires leaders, including governors, to lead with ambition and determination to bring about continual improvement.” The report highlights that effective partnerships with local churches, the Diocese and national programmes, ensure that the vision is not only visible but “a living reality”.
Key Strengths Identified by SIAMS- Inspirational Leadership Driven by Christian Vision:
Leaders and governors are praised for their vision, which is transforming education across the all-through school. Leaders have invested in an innovative partnership with the diocese and local churches to employ Christian youth workers. This is bringing about many more opportunities for pupils and adults to thrive spiritually in school. - Strong Religious Education (RE) Provision:
Strong subject leadership has created a “thoughtful, inspiring curriculum,” with high-quality training for staff. Pupils value RE and recognise it as vital preparation for life in a diverse society. - Strong Focus on Wellbeing and Mental Health:
The Christian vision ensures that leaders prioritise the wellbeing and mental health of pupils and adults. As a result, pupils and adults feel well-supported to flourish at school. - Inclusive and Vision-Led Curriculum:
The school’s vision shapes an inclusive curriculum that is effectively adapted to enable pupils who have special educational needs (SEND) or vulnerable pupils to have their needs met. - Strong Pupil Leadership and Responsibility:
As a result of the vision, pupils are challenged and stimulated to take on responsibilities and develop as pupil leaders, making significant contributions to their community.
Collective worship is described as a valued part of school life, inspiring reflection and supporting spiritual development. Worship includes, and involves, both those of differing faiths and non-believers.
The report emphasises the school’s strong culture of wellbeing, backed by extensive pastoral support. Staff are trained as “listening ears,” school pastors provide guidance for older pupils, and leaders ensure families feel supported. One parent shared that she had been “overwhelmed by leaders’ kindness and generosity.”
From funded breakfast clubs to international spiritual retreats, from SEND-inclusive worship to leadership opportunities, the inspector recognised The Bay CE School as a thriving community that enables pupils and adults to flourish.
The report also noted some development points; continuing to develop collective worship in key stages 3 and 4 and further embedding spirituality so older pupils can deepen their ability to reflect.
Duncan Mills, Executive Headteacher said
“We are delighted that the SIAMS report recognises the strength of our Christian vision and the way it drives everything we do at The Bay. Our school vision is to provide a challenging, stimulating and caring environment for children of all faiths and none. While we are proud of our Church of England foundation, families do not need to be religious to feel welcome or to thrive here. We serve children and families of all faiths and none. The report confirms that our vision creates a school community, where everyone can flourish and is a testament to the way our pupils, staff, families and church partners work together, striving for the very best.”
Peter Higgin, Chair of Governing Board said
“We were thrilled to welcome our SIAMS inspector. As governors (foundation, parent and co-opted) we represented the school, alongside staff, to show how our school values shine, how the school’s Christian mission runs through everything we do and how this underpins our strategic work. The outcome is deserved and a welcome validation for the hard work of staff from across the school, who, alongside our pupils, students and school community, shone throughout.”
