A fantastic performance by our team of enthusiastic rowers, several racing on the rowing ergometers for the first time, who stormed to an emphatic victory at the recent Island Indoor Rowing championships.
Hosted here at the Bay, all secondary schools on the Island took part, bringing together the best of the best. Year group-based teams competed in both an Endurance and Sprint event, with a relay to finish. With a strong reputation in this event, our rowers quickly established themselves as the team to beat. However both Christ the King and the Island Free School did put up a strong contest in the early stages, with some fine individual performances.
Year 7 and 10 teams won their age groups, with our Year 11 team a very close second to the Island Free School.
Strength in depth was always going to be crucial however in the overall championship, and every one of our rowers, gave 100% effort despite the gruelling nature of this event. The support for each other, supporting in every race, was outstanding. The Bay CE came into their own on the final relay events, using a well-drilled strategy, extending their lead to 15 points by the close of the championships!
