On Monday, our U11 girls travelled to East Cowes for their semi-final against Queensgate knowing a win would put them into their first cup final. In freezing and difficult conditions on a slippery astroturf, the girls produced another confident and spirited performance. They defended superbly with Lily in goal and Isabel and Gracie in defence ensured the team kept another clean sheet. Evie, Roxy and Lucy worked tirelessly in the midfield, tackling, passing and shooting against some strong players and Sevval and Lillie-Kay leading from the front in attack. At one point, it didn’t look like they were going to find a way past the tricky Queensgate goalkeeper but Evie cut in from the right and managed to squeeze the ball in from a tight angle. The girls went from strength to strength after this and it could’ve been more goals if their keeper didn’t produce some amazing saves. They now wait to find out who they will face in the final whilst also concentrating on a league quarter-final in the upcoming weeks. Well done and good luck team!
Last Thursday, our U11s began the knock-out stages of their league competition having reached the final in the previous two years. The team started in a confident mood and dominated from start to finish but unfortunately just couldn’t score the important first goal. Late into the second half, Lanesend broke away with their strikers 2 against 1, they passed the ball across the goal for the other to tap into the empty goal. The team now face Carisbrooke next week in their quarter-final of the cup. Good luck guys!
