On Tuesday, our Year 5 boys faced current cup and league champions, Lanesend, in their cup semi-final. The team knew it would be a tough challenge especially having been beaten by them just 2 weeks ago. The boys were clear with what they were going to improve on this time to give them the best chance of winning. Right from the start, they battled hard together as a team and played some fantastic football – trusting each other at every opportunity. After a dominant start, a quick passing move between Isaac, Bradley and Freddie gave Freddie the opportunity to slot home to make it 1-0. This gave the team more motivation and soon after Isaac made it 2-0 with the ball going in off the post to spark big celebrations! Half-time 2-0. The second half was tough as Lanesend threw everything forward but the defence of Zach, Cayden and Charlie stood firm with strong tackles and confident goalkeeping from Charlie. Aidan continued to work tirelessly in midfield making vital interceptions when Lanesend looked to break forwards. Lanesend did finally score to make it 2-1 to set up a nervy last 5 minutes. Zach’s intelligence when defending and Charlie’s bravery to come and collect the ball safely on many occasions proved so important but Lanesend had one final chance with 10 seconds remaining…luckily it hit the post! This gave the boys a well deserved victory and now through to the U10s Isle of Wight Cup Final! Well done team!
