On Thursday, 21 VERY excited Year 2 and 3s made the wet and windy journey over to the secondary site for their first competitive school matches (against each other). When we arrived, the boys were split into 3 teams of 7. Each team was given some tips on how to organise their side but took the majority of the leadership on themselves.
The first round of games were played at a high tempo with all the players chasing after the ball eager to make tackles, play passes and score goals. It was amazing to see so many happy children with big smiles on their faces enjoying playing football and representing the school.
During the break between the second round of games, the boys talked about keeping to their positions as much as possible so everyone wasn’t crowded in one space and also controlling the ball then looking for a pass instead of just ‘whacking it’.
As soon as the second round of games started, it was clear players were trying really hard to find space and play passes to their team mates. Max W finished brilliantly after a superb pass from Harry W. But soon after, another Year 2 – Billy Young – powered in a shot to equalise! The final games of the afternoon showed the ability and potential of our future school footballers, they should be extremely proud of themselves.
Well done to all the players, especially the Year 2s who challenged themselves against children in Year 3. Thanks to Mrs Baker, Mrs Lingard-Lane and Roxy (Y6) for helping and also all the supporters that came to cheer on the boys from the balcony!
