History

At the Bay C of E School (Primary site), the children study History through exciting Learning Experiences. Each year group is working towards the National Curriculum programmes of study and subject content, so as to ensure all of the objectives are met. Our History lessons are planned so that children build on their skills and knowledge as they progress through the school.

History: At the Bay CE School we aim to provide a high-quality history education which will help pupils gain a clear knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world.

We endeavour to inspire pupils’ curiosity to want to know more about the past.

The teaching delivered equips pupils to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments and develop perspective and judgement. It also helps pupils to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time.

An example of a learning experience:

Last half term, Year 4 studied the Vikings. The Learning Experience was called Victorious Vikings.

The children can now identify characteristic features and have developed an understanding of the chronology of events, people, periods and civilizations studied. They have developed an understanding of how change happened and how that affected people differently, and how it has an impact on future events. During lessons, they have used evidence to make informal decisions about the Vikings and can now talk about characteristic features of those studies.

At the end of the Learning Experience, the children were asked what they had learnt. Below are some Responses:
