Armistice 100 1333 2000 The Bay CE Secondary School

To mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the Great War in 1918, 100 students have taken part in a photographic project – Armistice 100. As The Bay CE School is a through school, the images included some of our youngest and most senior students side by side holding a poppy as an act of remembrance. We were seeking to capture the sense of community, which we know was an essential part of the new school’s opening. A whole series of images were taken both inside and outside the school and students having discussed different ways in which the pictures could be composed.

100 hundred poppies were made as part of History lessons this month. One half of each poppy is a photograph from the Great War and on the red petal opposite students asked questions about the sources which they could follow as part of their research. The poppy reminds us that this work has been completed in this very special context. The poppies will add to the Bay CE School display at St John’s Church in Sandown.
