A reminder to all parents to be particularly vigilant about your child’s access to social media. Please monitor your children’s online activity. The legal age for using Facebook and Snapchat is 13 years old.
It has been brought to our attention that some students are accessing a group chat though Snapchat called ‘Talk to me.’ The group’s own tag line is: ‘Talk to someone. Meet strangers, share secrets, express anonymously. Free, anonymous and confidential online text chat with strangers around the world. Unleash the monster inside you.’
This site allows people to talk to each other anonymously and encourages self-harm and suicide.
Another app to look out for is ‘Tellonym’: this is shared through Instagram or Snapchat and allows the user to send anonymous messages to anyone in the group.
Remember you can protect and monitor your children by installing Google Family Link, Selfie Cop or Kids Place; these are all recommended apps for keeping safe.
Thank you
The Bay CE Safeguarding Team.
