Year 7 students at The Bay CE School had a tough start to secondary school, due to Covid restrictions they were unable to visit the schools for transition days. Although the school did a variety of virtual activities Mrs Farley, Year Manager wanted to acknowledge the brilliant resilience of the Year 7’s and to reward them for their resilience, hard work, good behaviour and for settling in so well to secondary school life. She contacted local businesses who were only too happy to support her ‘summer raffle’ and donate prizes. During the last week of term a raffle was drawn and the winning students went up to collect their prize in a lucky dip box.
The following donations were received:
- Fins Beach cafe (2 smoothie bowls)
- Superbowl (3 pairs of a free game)
- The Old Barracks in Puckpool Park (1 x12 inch pizza)
- Harwoods Garage Wootton (beach cricket set and 5 free car washes)
- Robin hill and Blackgang Chine (family ticket to both parks)
- Tackilsle (SUP splash session for 2)
- Waterside community pool (family swim)
- Cineworld (2 tickets)
- Peter Pans amusements (1 x crazy golf for four people and 1 x £10 worth of tokens to use in the park)
Mrs Farley, Year 7 Manager said
“I was overwhelmed with the generosity of local businesses. I know they have had a tough year but they still donated some brilliant prizes which were a great incentive and reward.
Year 7 students have had an excellent year, despite the challenges of Covid. I am really proud of how well they have settled into secondary school life. They are working hard in all their lessons, they have embraced all the opportunities available to them and they have made new friends. We finish the year with a cohort of confident, capable and thoroughly engaged students. Students who believe in themselves and the school, who inspire us all every day and who excel in so many ways.”
It was not just the summer raffle that rewarded students; during the last week of term those who received their Leadership Award for gaining in excess of 50 merits so far this year were invited for ‘cake at break.’ They enjoyed eating cake with their tutors before being presented with their certificates by Mrs Westcott-Hayes, Head of School. A group of five students also had lunch with Mrs Westcott-Hayes (Headteacher) and Mr King (Assistant Headteacher) for receiving over 75 merits.
On the last day of term a virtual Celebration Assembly was held by the House Leaders to celebrate all of the academic achievements alongside awards for attendance and participation.
