Remembrance 2000 1340 The Bay CE Secondary School

Students and staff at the Bay CE Secondary School came together today to commemorate those who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Two plaques were relocated from South Block to their new home in East Atrium where students and staff will pass each day.

There are two plaques; the one on the left of the photo has the names of students of Sandown Secondary School who died in the First World War, the plaque on the right has names of those who died in the Second World War. They symbolise all of the men and women who have served our country.

All students attended an assembly this week where they looked at the stories behind some of the names on the plaques. The following quote is from the Headteacher’s Newsletter from 1944.

“Soon we hope to see again those Sandonians who have so willingly given their services in this world war, and with them we shall pay tribute to those who laid down their lives that their fellow-country men might not suffer the fate of the peoples of Europe.”
