U15 League Champions 2000 1500 The Bay CE Secondary School

Our U15 girls football team travelled away to Ryde Academy this afternoon for their final league match. After an exceptionally good season and remaining unbeaten in the league, the girls hopes were high… and rightfully so. The game got off to a slow start with chances for both teams. Ryde came close with a free kick just outside the area but Charlie Grogan’s presence and tenacity ensured nothing was getting past her. The game continued end to end with both teams appearing evenly matched. A handball by one of the Ryde defenders resulted in a 9th minute penalty being awarded to The Bay girls. Captain Faith stood up and took the spot kick and confidently put the ball away. The Bay leading 1-0. Our girls were now settled into their stride – a second goal from Faith after she intercepted a Ryde goal kick meant our team went into half-time with a 2-nil lead. The team were really geared up for a win now and didn’t want to settle for anything less. With a strong line of defence nothing was getting past Keira, Halle or Abi.

Two minutes into the second half Faith scored again – making yet another hat trick for her. No sooner had the Ryde team kicked off from the centre spot, The Bay girls intercepted Ryde’s attack and fed the ball through to Faith who scored for a 4th time. Faith’s 5th shot on goal hit the cross-bar but Charlea Kirby was there ready to volley the ball and made certain that this time it hit the back of the net. Charlea took over the goal tally from here and with four minutes of time remaining Charlea had also made a hat trick. In the closing minutes a last minute change in defence meant Charlie Grogan, who up until now had been playing in goal, had her turn of a runaround – two minutes later scoring the final goal from our side. The team were leading 8-0 and a brief lapse in concentration allowed Ryde to score a consolation goal.

Final score 8-1 to The Bay. Faith (4); Charlea K (3); Charlie G (1). All of the team had an amazing game – Abi, Keira and Halle in defence were faultless. Tilly, Gracie and Charlotte in midfield were integral throughout the whole game ensuring the ball made its way forward for Faith and Charlea. For Charlie G it was her debut match of the season as GK. She had a clean sheet and even went on to score a goal. An amazing performance from our girls and a real pleasure to watch. Having remained unbeaten in the Football League this year and with all matches being played means The Bay CE Schools U15 Girls team are League Champions for 2022! Your medals and trophy are waiting for you.

Well done Team Bay!!
