Sports Premium

The Government has committed to providing substantial primary school sport funding until 2020 including a significant increase in 2018-19 to reflect the additional income from the ‘sugar tax’. This funding is jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and money goes directly to primary school headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. This funding has now been guaranteed until 2020 regardless of any change there may be in Government. For the academic year 2017-18 schools with 17 or more eligible pupils received £16000 and an additional £10 per pupil.

The sport funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools. As of September 2015 the guidelines for how the money can be spent have become more specific: “Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer” (Ofsted update 4 September 2015)
