The Year 7 Accelerated Learning Programme
My name is Mrs Vicky Plested and I am the lead for the accelerated learning programme. I have recently moved to the island with my family from Swindon, Wiltshire where I had been an advanced skills teacher and a Deputy Head of a primary school. Setting up the accelerated learning programme has been really exciting and a great way to build links through our school.
We are excited to be introducing the Year 7 accelerate learning programme this year. This programme lasts for 10 weeks and is focused on the gaps Year 7 have in English or maths and activities are planned to fill these gaps so that children can make good progress in their lessons. The sessions are taught by experienced primary trained teachers. They take place twice a week for one hour and are either during period 5 or after school. The feedback we have received from parents and students has been great. They are keen to learn and produce work of a good quality. After the 10 weeks, there will be a celebration event to acknowledge the success the children who have attended regularly have made.
Please see below a selection of resources that we use in the sessions that your children might find helpful when completing homework.

Year 7 students celebrate graduating
‘The Bay Accelerated Learning Programme’
February 2020
A selection of Year 7 students have been celebrating after graduating from the ‘Accelerated Learning’ programme. The 10 week programme focuses on providing additional support to students in English or Maths. During the sessions they completed activities in small groups that will assist them in their daily lessons. On Thursday 13th February they attended a celebration event to congratulate them for the improvements they have made. They had cakes, popcorn and crisps and watched a film. They also received certificates.
Due to the success of the programme, cohort 2 will be commencing after half term. Click here to read more about the event.
