Literacy

World Book Day

World Book Day is on the 7th March 2019 and it is an important date for the school this as we have put so much emphasis on Literacy in our opening months. There will a series of events both on, and in the run-up to, the day itself which will include “The Book I love …” cards on Valentine’s Day and an “All Day Read” for Years 7 and 8, where they continue to read the same book at various points throughout the day ,

Author A. E. Colmer will visit the school on March 1st and meet with students to discuss the process of writing and launching a new novel. There will be a ‘Staircase Treasure Hunt’ which ties in with her novel “Talendia” in the days before.

On World Book Day itself everyone is invited to come into school in costume as their favourite character – Paddingtons, Everdines and Dumbledores are most welcome. Everyone will also receive the World Book Day Vouchers.

World Book Day will also mark the end of the Bay Big Read where Year 7s have been boosting their reading, logging the pages covered and exploring new titles. We are looking forward to celebrating the students who have read the most, can enthuse about the books they enjoyed and have found titles they would recommend to their classmates.
